We're back in the lube aisle, and it's messier than we thought. Many popular water-based lubes are hyperosmolal, meaning they can pull water out of delicate tissue. New research found a single dose was linked to a lasting drop in protective vaginal bacteria in peri- and postmenopausal women and in women with a history of bacterial vaginosis. Meanwhile, another study found some lubes left the microbiome mostly stable. We break down osmolality, pH, parabens, glycerin, and silicone versus water. Legit science, zero fluff, maximum sass.
