About
What are the differences between males and females, and does it really matter?
Aside from the obvious external anatomical differences, the main difference that impacts us with regards to exercise and our response to training, is our different sex hormones that dominate after puberty.
šāāļø Men have significantly higher levels of testosterone
šš»āāļø Womenās key sex hormones, estrogen and progesterone fluctuate regularly throughout the menstrual cycle, go crazy and fluctuate unpredictably during perimenopause, and drop off almost completely postmenopause.
The natural fluctuations of our hormones impact:
š§āāļø Our body composition & our weight
šŖ Our ability to make muscle
š„ Our metabolism - the fuels that we burn and spare
š“ Our ability to recover from training
š„µ How well we tolerate the heat
𤬠Our moods
𤯠And so much more!
In this episode we dive into these differences, the influence of our hormones, and what we can do to optimise our health and our training.
