Menopause and the cardiometabolic changes that occur and how we can improve our health with regular physical exercise. I’m citing an article that I found titled The cardiometabolic benefits of exercise in postmenopausal women written by Steven G. Chrysant MD, PhD

- Menopause and the decrease in estrogen levels is associated with significant cardiometabolic changes.
- Cardiometabolic changes include weight gain, abdominal obesity, insulin resistance, T2Diabetes, elevated triglycerides and elevated glucose levels, and obesity-related hypertension. This can lead to an increased risk of a heart attack, stroke and diabetes
- It has been shown that Sedentary menopausal women are at risk of bone and muscle mass loss leading to osteoporosis and sarcopenia.
- While Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is beneficial, not everyone is a suitable candidate.
- Regular Physical exercise has been shown to have positive cardio metabolic effects on women in menopause, decreasing blood pressure, improving lipid levels, decreasing hypertension, lowering weight and abdominal fat and managing blood sugar.
