About

I am so excited to welcome you to my brand new podcast ‘Outrun The Menopause’

If you want to not only survive, but to actually thrive & strive through menopause you NEED to subscribe and listen to this podcast.

I’m Nicky Edwards, a physiotherapist and avid runner. I am little obsessed with talking about the menopause and how females, especially those age 40+, need to adapt their exercise and nutrition to be in harmony with their changing hormones.

You may wonder why an almost 42 year old is obsessed with talking about the menopause. But as we party our way past our 40th birthday, especially toward our mid to late 40s, we are unwittingly thrusted onto the hormonal rollercoaster of perimenopause and the chaos of hot flashes, fatigue, night sweats, insomnia, reduced bone density, loss of muscle mass and strength, and the emotional lability that accompanies it.

I see so many women in my clinic with AVOIDABLE physical health problems such as joint pain, back pain and osteoporosis, and feeling miserable and self conscious due to the 'menopausal spread' around their midriff. Most health problems in women after 40 are linked to our declining oestrogen levels, contributed to by physical inactivity, dietary deficiencies, and other changes associated with ageing.

I am SO frustrated:

- that menopause continues to be a taboo subject and the lack of education about perimenopause and beyond. We wouldn’t let our children hit puberty without educating them, so why are we doing this to the 50% of the population who will go through menopause?

- about the lack of education about menopause so that women like me who are estranged from their mother and have no family knowledge or experience to learn from are left in the dark.

- about the vast amount of INACCURATE information and ridiculously expensive gimmicks, gadgets, and supplements out there promising to be the magical solution you are looking for. It's confusing the hell out of women already struggling with brain fog and fatigue from sweaty sleepless nights who are desperate to do ANYTHING to alleviate their symptoms.

- seeing women being RIPPED OFF by clever marketing of products making false claims that will never work

- women suffering unnecessarily when some simple (FREE) good habits can make a HUGE difference to both physical and mental wellbeing.

But don't worry, I am here to help you, help yourself, to alleviate symptoms and become a stronger, healthier version of yourself.

The Outrun The Menopause podcast will provide expert information and advice that you can trust.

You will hear a wealth of easy to understand information from myself, specialist physiotherapist Nicky Edwards, and guest experts within the sphere of menopause, women's health, exercise, nutrition and running. Discover what menopause is, how it impacts your physical and mental health, find answers to your questions about menopause and how you can use running and physical activity to take positive steps to live a long, healthy and independent life.

This podcast is for you if you:

  • are pre-menopausal and want to know more about the menopause so that you don't feel absolutely lost and clueless when you start to experience symptoms
  • are in perimenopause, the time leading up to menopause, when your hormones are going crazy causing a myriad of symptoms and you want to know what you can do to feel more energised and like your normal self
  • are post menopause and want to know what you can do NOW to improve your health and well being
